Our Legacy

The Newell legacy traces its roots to Robert Newell (1895–1973) and Hazel Newell (born Lindsey, 1897–1974), whose union became the cornerstone of a remarkable and loving family. Together, Robert and Hazel welcomed twelve children into the world, each contributing in unique and enduring ways to the strength and spirit of their lineage. Their children—Lavern Barnett (Newell), Willie F. Newell, Leanna N. Gavin (Newell), Drucilla Johnson (Newell), Arby Newell, Curtis Newell, Fannie Mae Harvell (Newell), Samantha Thomas (Newell), Rosie Mae Weathersby (Newell), Lum Newell, Alice Asbury (Newell), and Hazel M. Jones (Newell)—have extended the family’s legacy through generations of shared love, resilience, and achievement.
The story of Robert and Hazel, and the birth of their twelve children, stands as a testament to the values of unity and perseverance, reflecting a heritage that continues to inspire and connect hundreds of Newell descendants today.
